Las Vegas Airport

The McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, Nevada is the 8th busiest in the world in terms of takeoffs and landings. It is quite close (5 miles or 8 km) to downtown Las Vegas and even closer to the famed “Strip” of hotels and casinos along Las Vegas Boulevard, and is rapidly growing along with the Las Vegas metropolitan area. The airport was first built in 1926, then replaced in 1930 and named in 1948 for Senator Pat McCarran, author of the Civil Aviation Act that regulates American commercial and private aviation. It is also well-known for the availability of slot machines in the concourses, as gambling is legal in Nevada, and for a museum of flight-themed art located in the airport.

Like the city it serves, Los Angeles International Airport is huge, very busy and often crowded. The airport began as a dirt landing strip in 1928 and a hangar, which is still preserved, was erected the following year. Commercial flights began in 1946, and the airport now has flights to all 6 inhabited continents. The facility currently consists of 8 domestic terminals and the Tom Bradley International Terminal. The airport has been shown in hundreds of movies, TV shows and video games.

Fort Lauderdale, Florida is part of rapidly-expanding South Florida and is served by its own airport (Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International) as well as Miami’s airport. The Fort Lauderdale airport began as Merle Fogg Field, built on an abandoned gold course in 1929, and was a Naval Air Station during the Second World War. The airport is 3 miles (5 km) south of downtown Fort Lauderdale, 21 miles (33.7 km) north of Miami and adjacent to cruise ship terminals at Port Everglades.

Most locals access the airports by private car, but public transportation is also available.

Madrid Airport holds IATA Code as MAD and its full name is “Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport”. It is the leading international airport that serves Madrid, the capital city, in Spain. Madrid airport handled more than 39,000,000 passengers in 2013 and was ranked as 6th busiest and largest airport of Spain. This way the airport has become an important aviation hub in Europe too. Not far off, it is around 9 km from city financial district while it is around 15 KM from the city center that is why it is almost within the city limits. Barajas, the name comes from an adjacent district that has its metro rail station that connects to the airport.
